Inspired by Trevor Paglen's Invisible Images, TRACKED is a fictional work in which Naema exposes and systematically dissects the unseen social consequences of technology. With the undeniable presence of technology in everyone's daily life; she delves into the results of everyone's collective use of social media. Focusing on machine readable images, her work explores the implications of taking and uploading digital photos. Using an animation, the viewer is put into the perspective and walked through the process of how an innocent social media post can contribute to the persecution of others on the other side of the world. Artist Statement:
NB is a South Asian-American inter-disciplinary artist born and raised in Queens. Influenced by her childhood, large family, and culture, Naema uses a blend of fiction and reality in her work to tackle contemporary social issues. She uses her art to raise awareness and spark conversations around issues regarding being a first- generation immigrant, the harsh impacts of technology, and the detrimental impacts of social media on mental health. Like many others in her generation, she too found solace in utilizing ignorance as bliss. However, over the course of the pandemic she has learned the importance of standing up for what she believes is moral and just. While the bliss may be enjoyable, Naema walks the viewers through how a simple action may have deep and dark consequences. As an artist, her artwork takes form as videos and animation, which she hopes empowers the viewers to take action.
