Thirty-eight films have been released in the Godzilla universe since 1954, each featuring a kaiju monster emerging from the depths of the earth to wreak havoc on civilization. Karina Galieva’s Catzilla takes a humorous approach to enormous lizards destroying cities on film. The parody film stars a gigantic version of Galieva’s cat, Felix, moving through the streets of New York and terrifying pedestrians. The footage of Felix engaging in typical cat behavior aligns perfectly with the original audio from an advert for the first film in the series, Godzilla, King of the Monsters. The work’s stylistic adherence to the original films redirects our collective obsession with Godzilla towards our strange, subtly terrifying feline companions.
