Sweet Honey: Rules of Being an Alien is a digital 3D animation using Maya that explores the seem of microaggression. More specifically, it plots on the protagonist arriving at a new land as an alien, and their subtle power dynamic and connection with the surroundings. This piece shares the subtle, often overlooked moments that remind me that I'm still an alien.
Artist Bio
Anna Ren is a Brooklyn-based new media artist. Ren's art features bold colors and dynamic visuals, primarily in the form of 3D imagery integrated into animations, installations, and real-time experiences. She is also interested in exploring a varied form, such as web-based projects, playful experiences, and performances. She is into complex relationships between different entities in this world—humans, technology, and nature. A recurrent theme in her work is the exploration of human identity, drawing on her personal experiences as an alien in foreign lands to examine themes of belonging and displacement.
