Project Statement

The video plays through a cycle, with the scene of rain and shadows of butterflies in the background. The sound of rain and music in the background creates a smoothing effect. At the same time, the effects of the video make a sense of non-realism. As we reach the end of the video the glitches become more severe like turning off, as well as the music cutting off leaving just the sound of rain.

Artist Statement

I wanted this work to provoke a sense of calm. It has a very calm background with the sound of rain and soft music, while flowers bloom and die. The skull fading in and out with the flickering candlelight creates a sense of unity. Instead of creating a sense of unease, something is calming. The simplicity of the video doesn’t make one have wandering thoughts just being in the moment.
