About the Exhibition
Life is composed of countless fragments, lasting moments, shifting identities, unresolved emotions, and decisions that shape who we are. Fragments of Being, the New Media Arts Capstone exhibition, explores these pieces of existence, examining how they come together to create the complex and multifaceted nature of human experience. Through a variety of digital media, including 3D rendering, animation, sound design, video, and artificial intelligence, the artists in this exhibition confront themes of identity, time, restraint, and self-discovery. Each artwork serves as a fragment of its creator's journey, offering a deeply personal perspective while inviting universal reflection.
The exhibition unfolds across four thematic floors. Rethink (Floor 2) confronts self-restraint, anxiety, and the journey toward rethinking desires. Reflect (Floor 3) examines identity through the lens of Western beauty standards and critiques the pervasive influence of Eurocentrism, urging a reclamation of self-worth and individuality. Reframe (Floor 4) addresses depression, loss, and the search for renewed perspective. Recreate (Floor 5) explores the discovery of new ways to reconstruct a sense of being. Each of these themes encompass the effort of re-analyzing fragmented notions of being.
Viewers are invited to engage with the fragments individually, immersing themselves in the details, or exploring the connections between works, uncovering shared themes and patterns. This duality mirrors the fragmented yet interconnected nature of our lives, offering both personal insight and collective resonance. Fragments of Being celebrates the beauty of the unfinished and the meaning found in imperfection, reminding us that it is through these fragments that we uncover the essence of existence.
