Read about the project

Runway Repeat by Ciara Mohamed is a series of digital photographs exhibiting fashion in both traditional and modern ways. Runway Repeat illustrates both progress and stagnancy, problematizing the ideology of change. As fashion trends repeat every ten to twenty years, Mohamed’s Runway Repeat emphasizes the idea that style is forever and lasts through generations. Through collage and layering, Mohamed combines two aesthetics by placing current influencers, models, celebrities, etc. in vintage settings. Ultimately, the goal is for the viewer not to be able to tell what era they are looking at. This project aims to blur the lines and make the contrast between modern and vintage aesthetics indecipherable. With the use of color matching, blending, grain, and many other tools, Mohamed has created a seamless magazine spread that delivers the most authentic experience possible. In keeping with the theme “Generation, Generation,” Runway Repeat demonstrates resurgence in fashion and how modern and vintage aesthetics mesh together. Mohamed aims to portray how generations are constantly changing, ultimately intertwining together.
