Community Work is a single- channel video installation that illustrates the value of work done in service of a community. The video follows a group of anonymous individuals who come together to perform tasks of labor that benefit their shared community space: a subway station. The subjects of the video operate under the assumption that their labor will go uncompensated in economic terms. Instead, what they gain is social and environmental capital. This piece is intended to persuade viewers to change their behavior in a major way. The work gives an example of an activity they may participate in for their community immediately after leaving the art space.
