Beauty in the Process

Zhi Liang

Beauty in the Process by Zhi Liang is a short video that highlights the process of running as art rather than work. People often view the "process" as the work it takes in order to achieve a set goal. Conventionally, the end result is the star of the show. We use running as a means to achieve some sort of goal we have set for ourselves, whether it be to lose weight, or to complete a marathon. We are so focused on achieving this goal that we fail to acknowledge the beauty in the process. Through elements of cinematography, animation, and sound, Zhi allows us to appreciate the process of running as a form of work as well as art.

Zhi runs to train for marathons, to stay healthy, and to escape his problems. But to him, running is more than that. It is a form of art. From the moment his foot strikes the ground to how his breath synchronizes with his heartbeat, running creates its own masterpiece. There may be "work" involved but just take a step back and look at the process as a whole, and you'll see the art that has been created.
