Pieces of Me is a short movie that provides insight into Damasceno’s life as a model and aspects of the fashion industry that are often overlooked. The first scene takes place in a fashion e-commerce office, which comes across as a frenzied and hectic environment. Employees appear to be trapped in a seemingly endless cycle of production. The time lapse shows the repetition that occurs in a typical work day for Jess. Actions in this environment run like clockwork, and are almost robotic. We hear voices of women unsatisfied with the way they look.
Damasceno showcases different aspects of her experience in the fashion industry. Her work expresses her awareness of the false propaganda her image supports and her dissatisfaction with the mass production and the emphasis on consumption that influences people’s values in the industry. She hopes that her work will raise moral questions about the world and the few options that are given in society.
